Phytase in diets for Nile tilapia in the growth period R. Bras. Zootec.
Bock,Claudio Luiz; Pezzato,Luiz Edivaldo; Cantelmo,Osmar Angelo; Barros,Margarida Maria.
This research was carried out to compare the effect of phytase on performance, in the incorporation and excretion phosphorus in Nile tilápia. Four diets were used: one standard (contol), composed by 3,200 DE kcal ED/kg of ration and 30.0% CP and supplemented with phosphorus (4.0% of dicalcium phosphate), considering the treatment control, and others three, without phosphorus supplementation, with different phytase levels (1,000, 1,500, and 2,000 uf/kg), with four replication, per a period of 82 days. Circular tanks of fiber glass, with constant flow and aeration were used. The results demonstrated that the use of phytase in diets for fish production can reduce the levels of inorganic phosphorus in the diets and minimizing the impacts caused by phosphorus...

Plant- and microbial-based mechanisms to improve the agronomic effectiveness of phosphate rock: a review Anais da ABC (AABC)
Arcand,Melissa M.; Schneider,Kim D..
Deficiency in plant-available phosphorus is considered to be a major limiting factor to food production in many agricultural soils. Mineral resources are necessary to restore soil phosphorus content. In regions where conventional fertilizers are not used due to cost limitations or to mitigate adverse environmental effects, local sources of phosphate rock are being increasingly recognized for potential use as alternative phosphorus fertilizers. The main obstacle associated with using directly applied ground phosphate rock is that the phosphate released is often unable to supply sufficient plant-available phosphorus for crop uptake. Plantand microbial-based mechanisms are low-cost, appropriate technologies to enhance the solubilization and increase the...

Agricultural watersheds are affected by changes in climate, land use, agricultural practices, and human demand for energy, food, and water resources. In this context, we analyzed the agricultural, urbanizing Yahara watershed (size: 1345 km², population: 372,000) to assess its responses to multiple changing drivers. We measured recent trends in land use/cover and water quality of the watershed, spatial patterns of 10 ecosystem services, and spatial patterns and nestedness of governance. We developed scenarios for the future of the Yahara watershed by integrating trends and events from the global scenarios literature, perspectives of stakeholders, and models of biophysical drivers and ecosystem services. Four qualitative scenarios were created to...

Preliminary analysis on the use of Trophic State Indexes in a brazilian semiarid reservoir Biological Sciences
Lima, Paulo de Freitas; Sousa, Mart Som Reis; Porfírio, André Ferreira; Almeida, Beatriz Soares; Freire, Rogério Herlon Furtado; Santaella, Sandra Tédde.
The Carlson’s (1977) Trophic State Index (TSI) is a widely employed tool to estimate the degree of eutrophication in a reservoir. In Brazil, the need of a classification system that would take into account regional characteristics employed adjusted indexes generated by data from reservoirs in the southeastern region of the country. Current research compares responses for Carlson’s TSI (1977) and its derivations for Brazilian reservoirs from data collected in the Pereira de Miranda Reservoir (State of Ceará, Brazil), and analyzes the influence of local conditions on results and their applicability to reservoirs in the semiarid region. TSIs were calculated by data on total phosphorus, chlorophyll a and water transparency. The reservoir was estimated as...

Principais deficiências minerais em bovinos de corte. Infoteca-e

Rapid root assimilation of added phosphorus in a lowland tropical rainforest of French Guiana ArchiMer
Van Langenhove, Leandro; Janssens, Ivan A.; Verryckt, Lore; Brechet, Laetitia; Hartley, Iain P.; Stahl, Clement; Courtois, Elodie; Urbina, Ifigenia; Grau, Oriol; Sardans, Jordi; Peguero, Guille; Gargallo-garriga, Albert; Peñuelas, Josep; Vicca, Sara.
Theory states that tree growth in lowland tropical forests on old, weathered soils is limited by low phosphorous (P) availability. However, evidence for P limitation from nutrient manipulation experiments remains unclear, which raises the question whether trees are taking up added P. In French Guianese lowland rainforest, we measured changes in nitrogen (N) and P availability before and up to two months after N and P addition. We measured in soils with intact root systems and soils excluding roots and mycorrhizal fungi with root exclusion cylinders. When the root system was excluded, P addition increased P availability to a much greater extent and for a longer time than where the roots remained undisturbed. N dynamics were unaffected by root...

Recovery of degraded pasture in Rondônia: macronutrients and productivity of brachiaria brizantha Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Noronha,Norberto Cornejo; Andrade,Cristiano Alberto de; Limonge,Fernando Célio; Cerri,Carlos Clemente; Cerri,Carlos Eduardo Pellegrino; Piccolo,Marisa de Cássia; Feigl,Brigitte Josefine.
Pasture is the main form of land use in Amazonia. Over time the pasture grass loses vigor and yields decrease, indicating a certain degree of degeneration. The main causes of degradation are lack of pasture maintenance and subsequent weed infestation, the choice of regionally unsuitable forage species and excessive grazing. The main purpose of this study was to evaluate the impact of different recovery managements on soil chemical properties and grass yield of a degraded pasture in Rondônia. For this purpose, an experiment was installed in October 2001, consisting of five treatments: C = control; HA = harrowing + NPK + micronutrients; HE = Herbicide + NK + micronutrients; R = No-tillage rice + NPK + micronutrients; and S = No-tillage soybean + PK +...

Regulation of nitrogen fixation from free-living organisms in soil and leaf litter of two tropical forests of the Guiana shield ArchiMer
Van Langenhove, Leandro; Depaepe, Thomas; Vicca, Sara; Van Den Berge, Joke; Stahl, Clement; Courtois, Elodie; Weedon, James; Urbina, Ifigenia; Grau, Oriol; Asensio, Dolores; Peñuelas, Josep; Boeckx, Pascal; Richter, Andreas; Van Der Straeten, Dominique; Janssens, Ivan A..
Background and aims Biological fixation of atmospheric nitrogen (N2) is the main pathway for introducing N into unmanaged ecosystems. While recent estimates suggest that free-living N fixation (FLNF) accounts for the majority of N fixed in mature tropical forests, the controls governing this process are not completely understood. The aim of this study was to quantify FLNF rates and determine its drivers in two tropical pristine forests of French Guiana. Methods We used the acetylene reduction assay to measure FLNF rates at two sites, in two seasons and along three topographical positions, and used regression analyses to identify which edaphic explanatory variables, including carbon (C), nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and molybdenum (Mo) content, pH, water...

Response of diatom and dinoflagellate lifeforms to reduced phosphorus loading: a case study in the Thau lagoon, France ArchiMer
Gowen, R. J.; Collos, Y.; Tett, P.; Scherer, C.; Bec, B.; Abadie, Eric; Allen, M.; O'Brien, T..
The basin of Thau in southern France is a shallow, weakly flushed lagoon which is an important location for oyster cultivation. Phytoplankton analyses were carried out in 1975-1976 and then (almost) continuously since 1987. We report an investigation of 'the balance of organisms' in phytoplankton in relation to reductions in phosphorus loading, using two new tools based on phytoplankton lifeforms: the Plankton Index for Phytoplankton (PIp); Euclidean distance in state space. Our results show the utility of the tools for analysing changes in the ‘balance of organisms’ at the level of functional groups (in our study diatoms and dinoflagellates), but also illustrate the difficulties in demonstrating the reversal of human impacts resulting from eutrophication....
